May 19th 2009 will be a day Sri Lankans will never forget.. Sri Lanka, a paradise in the Indian Ocean that battled terrorism for three agonizing decades finally came under one flag as one nation under the guidance of president His Excellency Mahinda Rajapakshe and the bravery of the armed forces of Sri Lanka.. Sri Lankan armed forces, defeated the strongest known terrorist organization in the world, the LTTE (liberation tigers of tamil eelam) who are responsible for over 70,000 deaths in Sri lanka, single handedly.
The final battle took 3 long years to complete as it was a mammoth task to say the least.. It didn't come cheap either.. over 6000 brave soldiers laid down their lives for this cause.. and over 25000 soldiers paid with their limbs and health..
My beautiful Island is now at peace and the guns are silent..Sri Lanka within few years will be the paradise it was known to be..
All Sri Lankans, regardless of race, creed and color are eternally grateful to our soldiers who freed us from the clutches of terrorism.. Sri Lanka is indeed a small miracle..
